DIY Landmine Attachment

A swivel-caster pivot with a 2-inch PVC sleeve that accepts any Olympic barbell end — turns your garage into a full landmine station for rows, presses, and rotational core work for about $20. No floor drilling required.

Remove the caster wheel

Remove the caster wheel

Unbolt and take the wheel out of the swivel caster's fork. You'll reuse the fork and its axle to hold the PVC pipe — the wheel itself isn't needed.

TipKeep the axle bolt; it becomes the pivot pin for the pipe.

Cut the PVC sleeve

Cut the 2" PVC pipe to 12" with a miter saw or hacksaw. Deburr the inside of the top edge so the barbell slides in and out cleanly.

Drill the pivot hole

Near the bottom of the PVC, drill straight through both walls with a 1/2" bit (size it to your caster's axle bolt) so the pipe seats in the fork where the wheel was.

Assemble the pivot

Set the PVC into the caster fork, line up the holes, and run the axle bolt (or a lag screw) through the fork and the PVC, secured with washers. The pipe should tilt up and down on the axle and rotate on the swivel plate.

TipSnug, not over-tightened — you want free movement in every direction.

Mount the base

Screw the caster's top plate to a ~12"×12" scrap plywood board with the lag screws and washers (set the board in a corner and weight it down — no drilling needed), or bolt the plate straight to the floor.

⚠️ If you bolt into a concrete slab, check for radiant-heat lines or electrical conduit first.

Load a barbell and test range of motion

Place the unit 18–24 inches from two walls for clearance. Slide one barbell end into the PVC and run a few unloaded reps in each pattern (press, row, rotation) before adding weight.

TipSet it in a corner so the swivel can't kick the base out from under load.

    12" length · The sleeve the barbell sits in. The 2" inner diameter fits a standard 50 mm (2") Olympic barbell sleeve.

    The pivot. Pick one with a wheel at least 2" wide so the PVC seats in the fork — the swivel plate gives 360° rotation and the axle gives the up-and-down press/row motion.
  • 1/4" x 1" lag screws4–5
    One reuses the caster axle to pin the PVC in the fork; the rest fasten the caster plate to a board or the floor.
